NSF Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the
Atmosphere (CASA) offered a content institute/graduate level course
designed to enable 6th-12th grade science
teachers to deepen their
knowledge of concepts and develop hands-on classroom activities with
respect to the Engineering/technology
and Earth and Space science
curriculum frameworks. The institute featured lectures by expert
faculty, hands-on labs and
activities, utilizing communications
technologies, a field trip, and development and/or review of classroom
resources.
An additional opportunity will be the chance to
collaborate with faculty and teachers from Oklahoma, Massachusetts,
Puerto Rico, and Colorado. The content institute/course will have an
interdisciplinary focus on socially relevant science and engineering
topics that are appealing to young people (such as weather prediction
and forecasting using new technologies). A one-day callback day
in
November will allow teachers to present projects that they develop and
implement in their classrooms.
Jun 30- Jul 4, 2008. Support available from the
University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez. All workshop will
be conducted in ENGLISH. Hotel will be paid by the program. Sponsored
by CASA - a National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research
Center and co-sponsored by NASA – Tropical Center for Earth and Space
Science Studies (TCESS).
